What a month, August was. A lot of work, community, joy in this Jacksonville fellowship. A lot of creativity came to the table that night from around the city. We wrapped episode 3 of Tonight! on a Thursday evening, August 27th. Within 19 hours I was swimming the six miles up the St. Johns from Jacksonville University to the Fuller Warren with a great team of open water athletes. It was our 5th annual Up the River Downtown. Like Tonight! people came from around the city. We had a grand time on t...

“I went back to the cabin to rest and chose to lay in the grass with a pad and pen by my side. …Waking from a brief nap I wrote the concept to what I hope will be episode two with all the “songs” in order. It came through the rustling pines needles high above in the wind. One falls to the ground and act two begins.” - Blog May 9, 2015

Behind the Scenes of Episode 2

“Art is a socially acceptable compulsion. It's a place I can never be wrong.” -Jim Smith

A gratifying aspect of the Tonight! project is getting to know you. It’s part of the “work”. Like Thanksgiving dinner, a week in the kitchen and an hour to eat it. We get to sit at the same table but cooking together is where we really get to know each other. Hosting the show is the gift at the end. The last few weeks we’ve been cooking in various kitchens around town. The joy...

A couple days after taping the first episode I’m heading down to Salt Springs to take Richard Borders (camera guy, engineer, and genius) back to the Amrit Yoga Institute where he works and lives. Upon arriving it’s clear it would be beneficial to stay for a couple days and take some chill. Breathe Jim, breathe. Hearing the words of Marie Bailey bouncing off the sides of my skull. There’s no place like Om.

The road to that night was challenging. Trying to be creative and actually produce somethin...

Some of our friends have been asking what it means when I say “Jai Jacksonville”. My “Jai” habit started while hanging out with yoga peeps here in Jacksonville and down at the Amrit Yoga Institute in Salt Springs, about 85 miles south of town. This is where Amrit Desai lives and teaches, our first guest on our first episode. Like the word “Namaste”, those stumbling along the path to enlightenment use it as a greeting or a farewell. Similarly the phrase “Jai Gurudev” is used which means “victory...
